ANA CABECINHA AND INÊS HENRIQUES IN TO PODIUM

The elite world race walkers competed again In Rio Maior. On April 14, Rio Maior held its 21st International Grand Prix of Race Walking in Rio Maior, again part fof the World Challenge March of the International Athletics Federation.

This race, a few months of the 2012 Olympics, this year took a great interest in preparing and seeking qualification for the big event to be held in London.

Slovakian Matej Toth and Spaniard Beatriz Pascual respectively took the men’s and women’s 20km. The portuguese race walkers Ana  Cabecinha and Ines Henriques were second and third. Susana Feitor was ranked seventh and Vera Santos was eighth. In men the Mexican Eder Sanchez and Isaac Palma were second and third. João Vieira gave up, while his brother Sergio Vieira did not participate in this competition. The best portugueses were Pedro Isidro (17th), Augusto Cardoso (20nd) and Luis Lopes (21st).

This year the race was highly valued by the number of countries represented, 20 in all, several of which South American.

The organization was from the Desmor EEM, the Municipality of Rio Maior and Swimming Club Rio Maior, with the support of the Sports Institute of Portugal, the Olympic Committee of Portugal, the Portuguese Athletics Federation and the Santarém Athletics Association.
