FIRST TRAINING CAMP TOGETHER FOR DISABLED SWIMMERS AND NON-DISABLED OPEN WATER SWIMMERS

For the first time, between 3-7 July, the Rio Maior High Performance Swimming Centre, held the training camp of the disabled national swimming team of Portugal together with the non-disabled open water swimming national team.

This training camp included swimmers from both disciplines with goals to achieve at various international competitions, like the European and World Championships. Part of the open water national team were two athletes from the Rio Maior Swimming Club, Mafalda Rosa from Rio Maior and Tiago Campos from Santarém, who were accompanied by coach Nuno Ricardo, also from the Rio Maior Swimming Club.

The Portuguese Swimming Federation finds it very important to promote a training camp where non-disabled elite swimmers share their sporting experience with swimmers that have different levels and areas of disability, as this kind of exchange of experiences is enriching for all. All swimmers, coaches and managers should know how much sport is able to promote the integration of people into society, opening new opportunities for everyone to feel more proud and happier in their role as high-performance swimmers.
