IN RIO MAIOR ON THE WAY TO THE EUROPEAN AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

The first Global Adapted Swimming Training Camp, sponsored by the Portuguese Swimming Federation (FPN), took place in Rio Maior from 3-5 May, exactly one year after Portugal organized the 2016 IPC Swimming European Open Championships in Funchal, which is a European swimming competition for disabled athletes.

This was the first training camp, where athletes from various disability categories were selected and trained together with non-disabled swimmers. These athletes already reached the qualification times for the main international competitions of 2017. For example, the swimmers of Belenenses, Miguel Cruz and Tiago Neves, who already obtained the qualification time for the Deaflympics 2017 in Turkey, also did their preparation in Rio Maior, guided by their coach Fernando Couto.

It was the first training camp where various kinds of disabled people got together with swimmers that already achieved many times for the principal international competitions in 2017. With the minimums for the games of Deaf Olympics in Turkey 2017 were training in Rio Maior

Throughout the three days, the group was lodged in the Sports Centre and trained in the Olympic Swimming Pool and also in the 25m pool, enjoying all the services provided by the High Performance Swimming Centre, such as gyms, physiotherapy and massage.
