NEW SEASON IN THE HIGH PREFORMANCE SWIMMING CENTRE

The new season started on 3 September with the reception of new athletes in the High Performance Swimming Centre. The new swimmers and their families were welcomed and informed about the upcoming season, including the daily trainings, competitions and other important matters of the Training Centre. This event was coordinated by the Vice President of the Portuguese Swimming Federation, José Sacadura, and was accompanied by José Machado, head coach of the national swimming team.

In Rio Maior, swimmers have a special support from the Portuguese Government, meaning that they can successfully manage to complete their studies while focusing on their sport career at the same time. In this event, Isaura Morais, Mayor of Rio Maior was also present, who wished a good and successful year for the athletes regarding their studies and sporting career. Additionally, Inês Henriques, world champion in 50km race walking also attended together with her coach Jorge Miguel, and they spoke about their experience in high performance sport, giving advices to the swimmers and encouraging them to take the necessary effort and have the right mentality to be a good athlete and a good person.

This year, there are some other news from Rio Maior, two local long distance open water swimmers Tiago Campos and Mafalda Rosa, athletes of Clube de Natação de Rio Maior and coached by Nuno Ricardo will also take part in this project, which is a new initiative in Portuguese swimming.

Focusing on the success of young swimmers in their athletic, academic and personal life, Desmor Rio Maior Sport Centre has all the necessary conditions for the development of the athletes.

José Machado, head coach of the national team also added that it would not be easy to be in this project for young athletes, because it is very demanding, but it is necessary to work hard to be prepared for the international and European competitions. The kids and their parents can be assured that in Rio Maior they will have the best conditions to be successful in the future.

For the 2017/2018 season, the following swimmers will join the project:

Under the protocol between the Portuguese Swimming Federation and the Angolan Swimming Federation the following swimmers will be integrated in the project:

The following swimmers are also integrated in the project of the Swimming Centre:

The following swimmers are included in the High Performance Sports Training Centre as external athletes (they will train there, but due to the fact that they are from Rio Maior, they will not live in the Sport Complex):
