The first edition of the Cebola Run – Our Land Race took place in Rio Maior on September 6, bringing together a total of 322 participants.
The big winners were Said Ameqrane (men's category) and Emilia Kumós Pisoeiro (women's category), in a race that went through the city's main streets and avenues, including a passage through the emblematic Salt Pans. The start and finish were held on Av. Mário Soares, next to the Multi-Purpose Pavilion.
In the men's category, the podium was completed by Sigueni Mohamed (2nd place) and Sigueni Hicham (3rd place). These athletes, along with the winner, are of Moroccan origin, with extensive international experience, representing CDRC Ponterrolense. Special mention goes to the 4th place finisher, Tomás Cerveira, a native of Rio Maior, representing the Rio Maior S. Club.
In the women's competition, the podium was completed by Rita Furtado (2nd place, individual) and Filipa Neves (3rd place, Ontrisports).
Before the main race, the youngest athletes livened up the afternoon with the "Cebolinhas Run," which brought together children and youth across several age groups, from Bambis to Beginners.
The 10 km race awarded cash prizes to the top three overall finishers in both men's and women's categories, as well as prizes for age-group classifications.
The Cebola Run was organized by the Municipality of Rio Maior and the Rio Maior Sports Centre, with support from several entities. Special thanks to H2O - Associação de Jovens de Arrouquelas, Ontrisports, McDonald's Restaurant (official sponsor), Bandinha de São Sebastião, DJ Nuno Remix, and Vanessa Alexandra for the entertainment.
The race was also graced by godmothers Susana Feitor and Inês Henriques (who also participated in the race), and godfather, Olympic athlete João Vieira.
