33RD EDITION OF THE RIO MAIOR INTERNATIONAL GRAND PRIX

The 33rd edition of the Rio Maior International Grand Prix in Racewalking took place on Saturday, 16 May 2026, in the city's central streets.

The most prestigious international race walking event in Portugal was held once again, as part of the Gold Level RW Event circuit of the World Race Walking Tour, under the aegis of World Athletics.

This year, the competition was held over the half-marathon distance (21.1 km), replacing the 20 km. This development is in line with international trends in the sport, reinforcing Rio Maior's position as a world-class venue for race walking.

The programme included the youth and promotion events, the international 10 km events and the National U18 and U20 Championships.

The winners of the international events were Sweden's Perseus Karlström and Mexico's Alegna Gonzaléz. The top Portuguese male athlete was Eduardo Camarate, in fourth place overall, while the top Portuguese female athlete was Joana Pontes, in eighth place overall.

During the morning, the Jardim Municipal 25 de Abril hosted various activities dedicated to the senior population, promoted by the Mais Desporto, Mais Saúde Rio Maior programme, in an initiative that combined physical activity and leisure.

The event was organised by the Municipality of Rio Maior, Desmor and the Rio Maior Swimming Club, with the support of the Portuguese Athletics Federation and the Santarém Athletics Association.
