The Rio Maior Sports Centre (RMSC) received a delegation from the Universality department of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) this Wednesday, in an institutional visit that reinforced cooperation with the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) and consolidated Rio Maior's role as a center of excellence in hosting elite athletes and developing Olympic projects.
The IOC delegation was composed of Edward Kensington, director of the Universality department, and Huguette Yere, project manager, while the COP representation included Pedro Farromba, executive director, and Bruno Constantino, project manager. The delegation was welcomed by Filipe Santana Dias, president of the Municipal Chamber of Rio Maior, Lopes Candoso, vice president of the Municipal Chamber of Rio Maior, and Miguel Pacheco, president of the Board of Directors of Desmor.
During the visit, the next steps in the partnership between the IOC, the COP, and the RMSC were discussed within the framework of the Olympic Solidarity program, which foresees the installation, at the High-Performance Centre of Rio Maior, of scholarship athletes from various countries, benefiting from the exceptional training and technical support conditions available.
The representatives of the IOC expressed their gratitude for the cooperation and availability shown by the COP and the RMSC, highlighting the relevance of this collaboration to strengthen the mission of universality of the Olympic Movement and to support the training of athletes from around the world."
