RIO MAIOR INTERNATIONAL RACE WALKING GRAND PRIX

The 30th edition of the Rio Maior International Ra
This was once again a high-level competition, with some of the best international and national athletes, but also young and veteran athletes in the promotion competitions. Representatives of twenty-one nationalities were registered, with emphasis on the delegation from China, which presented itself with all its best male and female athletes.

In the international competitions of 20 km, the winners were the Chinese Jiayu Yang and the Ecuadorian Brian Daniel Pintado. The women's podium was completed with two more Chinese athletes, Shijie Qieyang (winner in Rio Maior in the years 2016, 2018 and 2019 and gold medal at the London Olympic Games) and Liujing Yang. Peruvian Kimberly Garcia, current world champion and winner in Rio Maior in 2017 and 2022, finished in fourth place.

In the men's competition, the podium closed with second place for Brazilian Caio Bonfim (winner in Rio Maior in 2014) and third for Japanese Toshikazu Yamanishi, current world champion and bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics.

The best Portuguese were Ana Cabecinha, Inês Mendes from Rio de Janeiro in second, with Carolina Costa in third. The best Portuguese was João Vieira from Rio de Janeiro (winner of the 20 km in 1997 and 2013), followed by Rui Coelho and Hélder Santos. Another highlight is Vera Santos, who this year participated in the 5 km race and crossed the finish line in first place. Remember that Vera Santos won the Rio Maior International Grand Prix in March, in the 20 km, in the years 2010 and 2014.

This was a very special organization, where the thirty editions of the Rio Maior International race Walking Grand Prix were celebrated. This milestone was marked with the unveiling of a plaque, placed in the municipal garden along with the existing one from the 25th edition. On this day of celebration, entities and people were honored, who throughout these years contributed to the affirmation and national and international success of this event.

It should also be noted that on this memorable occasion, the organization published a publication with the history of these thirty editions, since the first edition, in 1991, a version also available in digital format.

This was a joint organization of the Municipality of Rio Maior, Desmor and the Swimming Club of Rio Maior, with the support of the Portuguese Athletics Federation, the Athletics Association of Santarém, as well as the Olympic Committee of Portugal and various entities and companies in the municipality of Rio Maior.
