The Rio Maior International Race Walking Grand Prix has been confirmed for the 2027 World Athletics global calendar, once again featuring as part of the prestigious Gold circuit—the highest tier of international race walking competition.

The 34th edition, scheduled for April 3, 2027, will be one of only five Gold-level events on the global calendar, once again positioning Rio Maior among the sport's primary international stages.

With a history spanning more than three decades, the Rio Maior International Race Walking Grand Prix has established itself as a benchmark both nationally and internationally. It consistently attracts some of the world's best race walkers and stands as one of the most iconic events on the municipality's sporting calendar.

The growing importance of the competition is also reflected in its participation figures. The 2026 edition set a new record with 134 registered athletes from 15 countries—surpassing the 117 participants in 2025—and confirming the event's strong international appeal.
