RIO MAIOR SPORTS CENTRE - 25 YEARS

On June 6, 2025, the official ceremony of the 25th anniversary of the Rio Maior Sports Centre established by the Municipality of Rio Maior in January 2000 – was held.

The event took place at the Rio Maior Sports Centre and brought together over a hundred guests, including friends, partners, athletes, former athletes, sports officials, employees, and representatives from local and national organizations.

After a celebratory moment featuring the traditional birthday cake, the formal session followed in the Albino Maria Auditorium, with speeches by:

• Miguel Pacheco, Chairman of the Board of Desmor
• Silvino Sequeira, former Mayor of Rio Maior
• Isaura Morais, President of the Municipal Assembly of Rio Maior
• Susana Feitor, Chairwoman of the Board of the Sports Foundation
• Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Olympic Committee
• José Lourenço, President of the Portuguese Paralympic Committee
• Luís Filipe Santana Dias, Mayor of Rio Maior
• Pedro Dias, Secretary of State for Sport

During the ceremony, Miguel Pacheco emphasized:

"Over the past 25 years, athletes from 72 countries have chosen Rio Maior as their training base, achieving countless titles and victories, including 13 medals at the Olympic Games and 40 medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. This journey is above all the result of the dedication of a team of 88 professionals."

The ceremony concluded with the inauguration of the new synthetic turf pitch, celebrated with a symbolic match between the youth teams of Núcleo Sportinguista de Rio Maior and QT – Sport Clube Rio Maior, refereed by Alcobertas Futebol
