RIO MAIOR SPORTS CENTRE AND THE PORTUGUESES OLYMPIC COMMITTEE RENEWED THEIR PARTNERSHIP

On December 14th, the Rio Maior Sports Centre and the Portuguese Olympic Committee renewed the cooperation protocol that encourages and promotes Olympic Preparation and High Performance Sport in Rio Maior.

It was on June 22, 2001, that the City Council of Rio Maior and the Olympic Committee of Portugal celebrated a historic and pioneering Cooperation Protocol, which created the first Olympic Preparation Center in Portugal, the genesis of the current network of Centers of High Yield.

The continuity of this partnership has been maintained, over more than 20 years, through the periodic renewal of this document. Athletes benefit from this agreement, with the daily use of sports facilities and services, medicine, physiotherapy, massage, psychology, accommodation and catering, among others.

In Rio Maior, this partnership supports around 46 athletes, many of whom are from Rio Maior, including the 17 swimmers residing in the Swimming CAR and coming from all over the country. These athletes, and their coaches, were present yesterday at the protocol signing ceremony, which took place at the Albino Maria Auditorium, at the Centro de Estágios. The President of the Olympic Athletes Commission, Diana Gomes, was also present at this moment of great importance and significance, in the path of athletes who train and prepare for major national and international competitions.

The Protocol was signed by the Mayor of Rio Maior, Luís Filipe Santana Dias, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Desmor, Miguel Pacheco and by the President of the Olympic Committee of Portugal, José Manuel Constantino, being renewable until the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
