RMSC JOINS THE FIRST CONTRACTS OF THE 2024 – 2028 SPORTS DEVELOPMENT PLAN

The Rio Maior Sports CEntre was one of the first to sign the 2024–2028 Sports Development Program Contract, an initiative that mobilizes €65 million of investment in national sports, with €10 million allocated specifically to High-Performance Centres.

The ceremony took place in Anadia (10th Sep. 25) and marked the signing of the first five contracts for the rehabilitation of the High-Performance Centres of Anadia, Caldas da Rainha, Golegã, Montemor-o-Velho, and Rio Maior.
This investment, formalized between the Government, the Portuguese Olympic Committee, and the Portuguese Paralympic Committee, aims to strengthen training and preparation conditions for high-performance athletes, focusing on the improvement of infrastructure, medical facilities, and recovery areas.

CAR Rio Maior has played a decisive role in the training and preparation of both national and international athletes. Olympic swimmer Miguel Nascimento, current Secretary-General of the Olympic Athletes' Commission and a former resident of CAR Rio Maior during his sporting career, highlighted the importance of the conditions offered in Rio Maior for his development as both an athlete and an individual, stressing the positive impact that these investments have on the future of Portuguese sport.

According to COP President Fernando Gomes, the contracts signed represent "more than papers to store in a drawer: they are commitments that reflect concrete work, real investment, and improved training conditions for our athletes."

The Minister of Culture, Youth, Sport, and Equality, Margarida Balseiro Lopes, also reinforced the strategic vision of this plan, stressing that "investing in sport is investing in the country" and highlighting the importance of addressing decades of underinvestment in the sector.

Luis Filipe Santana, Mayor of Rio Maior, and Miguel Pacheco, Chairman of the Board of the Rio Maior Sports Centre, were present and signed the respective Program Contract.

With the rehabilitation of Rio Maior Sports Centre, better conditions are ensured for athletes, coaches, and technical teams, contributing to new international achievements and to the promotion of Portugal and Rio Maior in the global sporting arena.
