Between 1st and 9th September the Rio Maior Sports Centre hosted the International Triathlon Union Development World U23 & Junior Camp 2013. A squad of athletes and a group of mentor coaches primarily from emerging and developing national federations were selected to participate in the camp under the guidance of an outstanding coaching staff. This international training camp is directed to athletes between 16 - 23 years (Competing in the Junior or U23 category at the 2013 ITU World Triathlon Grand Final in London).
This training camp meets in Rio Maior 52 people
from 5 continents, 17 countries, including 30 athletes, 10 coaches, 12 staff
persons (physiotherapy, media, bicycle mechanics, etc..), officers and ITU
directors. The Rio Maior Sports Centre technical director Sérgio Santos once again is the lead coach like in the last year in Millennium Institute for Sport and Health, em Auckland, New Zealand. On 2nd September the ITU President Marisol Casado was in Rio Maior for the opening session of training camp together with the Portugal Sports Secretariat, Emídio Gurreiro thar represented the Portuguese Government.
